Come join Renaissance Brewing Co. for the tap room launch of Renaissance’s newest beer, “The Tulsamerican.” Named after the last WWII B-24 bomber built in Tulsa, this beer is brewed to commemorate the Tulsamerican, the last liberator bomber built at the Douglas factory in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The plane, along with 3 of its crew members, met its demise in the dark, deep, depths of the Adriatic Sea in which it set until its rediscovery 70 years later in 2010. With that in mind, we chose carefully a beer that would encompass this beloved aircraft. Like the resting place in which the aircraft was found, this beer is a deep, dark, cold fermented, cold lagered, craft product that is smooth to taste. In this product you will find subtle hints of roast from the grains, minimally hopped, and high drinkable profile that is provided by the lager yeast. Bearing a higher than average alcohol content, this beer promises to lift your spirits as the beloved aircraft once did and provide the lift in life in the same way the resurrection and finding does for us now.
The new beer’s launch comes on what would have been the 95th birthday of The Tulsamerican’s last pilot, Eugene Ford. Lt. Ford piloted The Tulsamerican on its last mission, taking the airplane and its crew into combat against the Nazis on December 17, 1944. After suffering severe damage from repeated enemy attacks, Lt. Ford was able to get The Tulsamerican back to the coast of Croatia, where American and British rescue crews were stationed. When The Tulsamerican crashed into the Adriatic Sea, Lt. Ford and two other airmen lost their lives. Seven of the crew, however, survived due to the heroic efforts of Lt. Ford.
The Renaissance Brewery’s latest beer pays tribute to the sacrifice made by Lt. Ford and his crew, and to the Douglas Aircraft Company workers here in Tulsa who built The Tulsamerican and paid for the airplane through the purchase of war bonds. The Tulsamerican will be available exclusively in the Renaissance Brewery Tap Room this summer, with a fall release planned in 16 oz. cans.
Come join Renaissance Brewery as we toast Lt. Ford on his birthday, and pay tribute to the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces!
